Pre-Algebra Mastery Topics
These are topics I have determined that students who complete Pre-Algebra should have mastered to be able to be ready for Algebra 1.
First Semester Topics1. Add, subtract, multiply, and divide Integers w/o a calculator.
2. Order of Operations 3. Simplify expressions involving the Distributive Property 4. Solve multi-step equations involving the Distributive Property and variables on both sides 5. Write numbers in scientific notation 6. Simplify expressions using the Product of Powers and Quotient of Powers properties 7. Describe the hierarchy of rational numbers and its subsets(integers, whole numbers, and natural numbers) 8. Add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions w/o a calculator 9. Solve proportions 10. Determine the number of possible outcomes using the basic counting principle |
Second Semester Topics1. Change a fraction to a percent
2. Find the percent of a number 3. Find the percent of change 4. Find slope of a line given two points 5. Write a linear equation in slope-intercept form 6. Graph a line by three methods: 1. Making a table 2. Finding the x- and y-intercepts 3. Using slope-intercept form 7. Find the missing side length of a right triangle using the Pythagorean Theorem 8. Describe the hierarchy of real numbers(rational-integers, whole, natural, irrational) 9. Find the area of triangles, quadrilaterals(square, rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid), and circles given a formula 10. Add and subtract polynomials |
